Smile Translate "tell" to vietnamese, noi, bao, ke etc.?

    Hello,

Could you please help me, how to use and choose the right word for "tell" in Vietnamese?
I have seen sentences with different words like noi (chuyen), bao, ke, cho toi biet etc. I know, "noi" is speak, but if you put it together with another word , can it then change the meaning?
If I will say : I would like to tell you about my country/family?. I would like to tell you a story. Can you tell me how to....He told me to go this way. He told me a story. Can you tell this in Vietnamese.

    Thank you!
    Birgit

    Hi there,

This is the first time I join Vdict.
I hope my answer some how helps you clear your question.

There is no big difference in the way you use noi (chuyen), bao, ke, cho toi biet,
the way people use bảo or kể depend on which region they came from.
cho toi biet means tell me .....

"I would like to tell you about my country/family"
=> Để mình (tôi) kể cho bạn nghe về đất nước, gia đình mình (tôi)

"I would like to tell you a story"
=> "Để mình (tôi) kể cho bạn câu chuyện "

" Can you tell me how to....."
=> "Bạn có thể chỉ (bảo) tôi làm sao để....."

"He told me to go this way"
=> "Anh ta chỉ (bảo ) ( kêu) tôi đi hướng này "

    "He told me a story"
=> "Anh ta kể tôi 1 câu chuyện "

kể usually followed by a story
    chỉ/bảo ~ give advice/command
nói = speak. It can replace for others (but not kể in tell a story)

    Thank you so much!
I have tried to make sentences, using "to tell in different ways and also the "modal verbs" you helped me understanding.
Would you let me know, if I made this right or totally wrong or may be a bit ok? Sorry for the wrong accents. It is difficult!

It is har with the accents!
It is very difficult to bind sentences together like the above.... " vì đã giúp tôi".
And conditional sentences.Neu em có thới gian thì em sẽ đen thăm chị.
Vì trởi mưa to nên tôi ở nhà,không đi cho.
Would you also call the last one a conditional sentence?
    Thank you so much!

just try it more because it sounds natural
about conditional sentences, I think that's just "nếu... thì... (if... then...)" true; "vì... nên... (because... ,...)" is a different kind

Nếu em có thời gian thì em sẽ đến thăm chị.
Vì trời mưa to nên tôi ở nhà, không đi chợ.
