    Default Sentence structure??

    I'm a little confused about the Viet sentence structure... I'm brand new to the Vietnamese language and I'm still unsure about a lot of things that are probably considered basic to most of you.

    Anyways, I was wondering if these phrases are written correctly, and if they aren't, if you could provide the correct phrase. I would be much obliged.

    Tôi không hiểu tiếng việt - I don't understand Vietnamese

    Tôi không có thể nghe - I can't hear

    Tôi muốn ân bánh mì - I want to eat bread

    Is this the correct way to form Viet sentences? Thanks.

    1. Correct

    2. If u say it that way, they will understand you are deaf. So you can say " Tôi nghe tiếng Việt không đuợc"

    3. Close. => Tôi muốn ăn bánh mì.
    Nhất tự vi sư , bán tự vi sư
    ---
    1st Version:
    Anyone who teaches me one word - even half a word - is still my teacher.
    2nd Version:
    Even he who teaches me the smallest bit can still be called my teacher

    Please correct my grammar as you see fit. Much appreciated!

    Thank you guys! Also, would anyone like to chat via PM in Viet? Like I said, I'm at a very basic level right now and I am very enthusiastic about improving...if anyone is interested, simply send me a PM!

    The second is correct but it is not really to use. Bcs: "không có thể" >> "không thể" (abbreviation). Using "được" at the end of the sentc (emphasis).

    So.. Tôi nghe không được

    or Tôi không thể nghe được?

    Normal: it's the same. But, there's a mall difference.
    - The first => general, pos+
    - The second => ++ability (I try to.. but I can't (bcs..; so I ..)), neg-

    Được: emphasis @ result

    Chúc mừng bạn GetOutOfMyYard đã chọn học tiếng Việt! Tiếng Việt phong phú lắm. Tuy mình là người Việt nhưng lúc nào học hỏi thêm.

    Tôi không nghe tiếng Việt được -> đúng nhưng rất "kỳ", nên nói là tôi không hiểu tiếng Việt.

    (You don't say you can't hear English, you say you can't understand English)
