I think I can help... The English idioym is "The clothes don't make the Man" but if an accurate translation is required I would try this "You might make the brands (or clothes or labels), but the brands (or clothes or labels) don't make you (real / a person)!"
In English we tend to use the word label as a contraction of 'designer label' and is used in connection with clothes only. It has a slightly negative meaning. If you say someone likes their labels it infers they are a little shallow. Brand has a more powerful and positive meaning. We talk about strong brands such as Barclays Premier League or British Airways etc.
