Giống như tất cả các ngôn ngữ trên thế giới, tiếng Anh cũng có rất nhiều từ lóng, từ địa phương, được sử dụng rộng rãi tại đất nước này cũng như các quốc gia sử dụng tiếng Anh. Vậy chúng ta cùng tìm hiểu một vài từ lóng thông dụng nhất nhé!
1. Dollar = Buck

Ở Mỹ nói đến tiền là chúng ta đang nói đến “dollar”, “buck” cũng được hiểu với nghĩa tương tự:
EX:
- How much for this, please? (Xin hỏi cái này bao nhiêu tiền)
- Ten bucks. (Mười đô la)

2. Grand = 1000 dollars

3.Buy = believe

Ex: “Buy” ngoài nghĩa “mua” thì còn có thể dùng với nghĩa “tin”:
You said dogs can fly, I don’t buy it (or I don't buy into that). (Bạn bảo chó có thể bay được ah? Tôi không tin).

4. Cool down = Calm down(bình tĩnh lại, làm cho bình tĩnh lại)

5. storm out = storm in
Ex: He stormed into the house and broke everything got in his way. (Hắn lao vào trong nhà và đập vỡ tất cả những gì gặp phải)

6. Chicken: thường được dùng để ám chỉ những người hèn nhát, “nhát chết”. Nó còn được sử dụng làm động từ (“chicken out”) với nghĩa “từ bỏ, không dám làm việc gì nữa do quá sợ hãi”:

Ex: He insisted on trying Bungee Jumping but after seeing how high it was, he chickened out! (Anh ấy nhất định đòi thử nhảy Bungee nhưng sau khi thấy nó cao thế nào, anh ấy sợ quá không dám thử nữa!)

7. couch potato: Chỉ sự lười biếng, ì ạch. Chẳng hạn khi ai đó chỉ nằm ườn xem ti vi vào ngày chủ nhật, chẳng hoạt động gì cả, chúng ta sẽ dùng couch potato, như củ khoai tây nằm trên ghế dài vậy.

Ex: I’m usually a couch potato on Sunday, just eat and watch TV.
