Hi guys and ladies out there!

It's a term of endearment like lovely or dear.
Dear Tricky42,
Thanks a heap, much appreciate the very prompt reply, saves me lotsa second guessing here,ha!
Yes I know it can be used in that way but it can used in an endearing way can't it? Depends on the context.
Dear english-learner,
Thank you for an alternate version for the word ! Mucho gracias !
In some contexts, the calling someone with the word hâm after the name expresses that the relationship between each other is much close and sounds funny.
"hâm" is used popularly in North Vietnam, but in South Vietnam we prefer using "khìn / khùng"
They all mean "a bit mad"
Good morning vietnamese4u,
Thanks for the in depth translation, much appreciated!
You should know that Vietnamese people never call someone who is loved by "ham" if the person is abnormal in character. Instead, they use the word "quai"
(quái).
For example:
Dung ham ( negative in meaning) =it means that man is a bit mad, crazy
Hung quai (positive) = it means that man can be a special, a fantastic people but very attractive and interesting who can do works that many people dare not or can not do
Pele, Maradona (in football) is very " quai" in playing football
I was born in Binh Dinh (middle of Vietnam) and now living in HCM city and I never heard anyone uses quái after name
