It's like this:
In English speaking countries usually only three meals are served during the day, that is breakfast, lunch at noon and supper in the evening hours. If either lunch or supper is the principal meal during the day, it is called dinner.
Only one principal meal (=dinner) is served during the day, that means it is the main and (mostly) the only warm dish for the day.
I am very sure that's right for the US, cause that's were I'm from.

From what I understand, Supper is a light meal and Dinner is a full course.
Yum! Yum! Yum! Unless you live in a less fortune countries, Dinner or Supper might not happen at all.
