Các cách dùng khác của IF

CÁC CÁCH DÙNG THÊM CỦA IF
1. If…then..: nếu …thì…
Ex: If she can’t come to us, then we will have to go and see her
2. If dùng trong dạng câu ko phải câu điều kiện: động từ ở các mệnh đề diễn biến bình thường theo thời gian của chính nó
Ex: If that was Mary, why didn’t she stop and say hello
3. If … should= If …happen to=If… should happen to : diễn tả sự không chắc chắn
Ex: If you should happen to pass a supermarket, perhaps you could get some eggs for me.
4. If…was/were to: có 2 cách dùng
-diễn tả điều kiện ko có thật hay tưởng tượng ở tương lai
ex: If the boss was to come in now, we would be in real trouble
inversion: Was the boss to come in now, ….
-diễn đạt ý lịch sự khi đưa ra đề nghị.
Ex: If you were to move the chair a bit, we could all sit down
NOTE: Cấu trúc này tuyệt đối không được dùng với các động từ tĩnh hay chỉ trạng thái tư duy
Ex: If I was to know her name , I would tell you→ incorrect
5. If it + to be + not for: nếu không vì
a. thời hiện tại: If it weren’t for the children, that couple wouldn’t have anything to talk about
b. thời quá khứ: If it hadn’t been for your help, I wouldn’t have known how to do
6. NOT đôi khi được them vào những động từ sau if để bày tỏ sự nghi ngờ, không chắc chắn (Có nên hay không)
Ex: I wonder if we shouldn’t ask the doctor to look at Mary.
7. If + preposition + noun/verb (subject+ be bị lược bỏ)
Ex: If in doubt, ask for help
If about to go on a long journey, try to have a good sleep.
8. If dùng khá phổ biến với các từ “ any, anything, ever, not” diễn đạt sự phủ định
Ex: There is a little if any good evidence for flying saucers.
I’m not angry. If anything, I feel a little surprised.
-thành ngữ này còn diễn đạt ý kiến ướm thử: nếu có
ex: Usually, if not always, we write “ cannot” as one word (Thông thường , nhưng ko phải luôn luôn)
9. If + adjective= although (cho dù là)
- dùng để diễn tả quan điểm ý kiến về vấn đề gì đó không quan trọng
ex: His style, if simple, is pleasant to read
The profits, if little lower than last year’s , are still extremely wealthy
- cấu trúc này có thể thay bằng may…,but
ex: His style may be simple, but it’s pleasant to read

Use "if" if you want to talk about a possibility of something that would or could occur, or a condition for something to occur.
