Default how does the Vietnamese culture regard suicide?

In the early 17th century, how would Vietnamese regard suicide? would they consider it or was it culturally tabo?

We have several heroes/heroines who committed suicide after losing the battle (because they failed the king, country or did not wish to get captured by enemy).

Women committed suicide so invaders(Chinese/French) would not be able to molest them.

But we don't encourage "kamikaze" like other cultures.

I find this very interesting. I am not Vietnamese but I am very interested in the Vietnamese culture and history. What were the names of these particular heroines and where can I find more information about them?
