It was a training workshop when 3 American trainers helped VTV improve TV production skills. The TV camera has a tripod which looks like the stand of the 14.5 mm land-to-air machine gun. Usually, the camera man turns it slowly to aim for a shot. Watching the American trainer turning the camera around with skill and swiftness, I got a pretty nasty idea. At the moment when everybody was relaxing after a hard working morning, I gripped firmly the camera, turn and pointed sharply at that trainer, I shouted:
- Freeze.
- Waoa!
He jumped aside sharply.
- You used to be a gun man? I asked.
- Yes. Why?
- ‘Cause you even survived the virtual bullets.
We talked about the past over a beer later in the afternoon. We reached a consensus that old habits die hard.

gun man hay gunman là dùng để chỉ người xấu dùng súng để hại người khác.

gunner là xạ thủ, dùng trong ngữ cảnh trên đúng hơn.

He said he was a boat gunner in Hau Giang during the war time. I did not ask how many kids he had shot dead. It was too provocative in our new context. Right? On the last day when we were saying good bye, he cried like a child. Now VTV has developed a new method of current news production. With a lot of PTC they are telling the stories by using the words of the people in action. Less narrative words.

Story 02.
Vasha Sidwell was an excellent TV producer from ABC (Australia).
She looks so beautiful that every Vietnamese male trainees would say “I wish”. The female trainees love her, too, in their own way.
So, they mentioned about a famous fortune teller. Vasha was eager to pay for the visit. (not much- just $10). Communication had to go through an interpreter. The service last for 2 hours.
They had coffee, after the visit, in a bar near the West Lake in Hanoi. Vasha had studied the interpreter with her curious eyes for 30 minutes before she asked:
- Did you translate what the fortune tell said or were they all your words?
- How could I know about you in such details when we first met and I come to this fortune teller the first time?- the young girl answered.

anti-aircraft gun/machine gun:Tiêng Việt là súng phòng không phải không? Còn sau nay hình như còn có "súng cao xạ", cái này chắc cùng loại chứ nhỉ?

Súng phòng không là nói chung. Súng cao xạ (bắn cao) thường ý là AAA (anti-aircraft artillery). Cái này thường cần 3-5 người để bắn. Đầu đạn nổ chứ không phải đạn thường như loại AA (12.7mm, vv).
Bác để ý mấy phim hồi chiến tranh VN mà có 2 người ngồi quay súng nòng dài chừng vài mét rồi có thêm một người cầm cờ ra lệnh bắn/chỉ hướng. Cái đó là súng cao xạ đấy. Súng này bắn bán tự động.

I dont get the sentence in red. Can some one explain for me, please?

Súng phòng không là nói chung. Súng cao xạ (bắn cao) thường ý là AAA (anti-aircraft artillery). Cái này thường cần 3-5 người để bắn. Đầu đạn nổ chứ không phải đạn thường như loại AA (12.7mm, vv).
Bác để ý mấy phim hồi chiến tranh VN mà có 2 người ngồi quay súng nòng dài chừng vài mét rồi có thêm một người cầm cờ ra lệnh bắn/chỉ hướng. Cái đó là súng cao xạ đấy. Súng này bắn bán tự động.

Bác Paddy biết rành về súng ống, quân đội bà Duơng Nguyệt Ánh chắc phải mời bác làm cộng tác viên chứ nhờ.

Story 03
Australian Gary White always loved to amuse people during his training. He, of course wanted to amuse himself first out of the boring routine training; the hot weather, the laziness of the interpreter, the unmotivated worker trainees, the stagnant general atmosphere. Every now and then he said: “Long time no see” “No star where”. “Shrimp paste I do smell”
Ending a session about connecting pipes, he said “Take it Easy, No worries, just follow the instructions. Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Independence, Freedom, Happiness. You can do whatever you like, as much as you can, your way.” “Any questions?”
Workers laughed and dismissed.
One month after that Gary White came back to the booster station to check the installation of the pipeline before the commissioning. He was furious with the group of workers, shouting on top of his voice: “Whoever told you to install this piece with the arrow here pointing down why it must show the water flow; pointing up here, here, into the sky?”
“It is YOU who told us to do our way, and whatever we like.” – answered a worker.
