Get a few lessons to get you started... Try saturday1985_bk on Yahoo. She's based in Hanoi and speaks great English. Also, download the Byki4 program for free. That's flash card based and is great starting point. It's not too difficult to read but undertstanding Viet speech is hard because of the tones. Good luck!
