    Default Hi, I am new

Hi Everybody, Just want to drop a line by to say Hi and hope to make a few new friends. I also want to know where I can learn more medical terms so I can help some of my friends sometimes. My neighbor just came to American not so long ago and I took the baby to get her shot and I don't know what they are. Now, I want to learn more medical term or vaccine names so I can help other in the future. I hope someone can help lead me to the right web site so I can learn some more Vietnamese. I came to America very young and doesn't know how to write but can understand and speak Vietnamese only. I am trying to learn reading & writing Vietnamese too.

Vaccination requirement may be different among states. Some of the standard ones are:

    MMR: measles/mumps/rubella
    Measles : Bệnh sởi
    Mumps: Bệnh quai bị
Rubella (german measles): Bệnh phong chẩn.

Hepatitis A, B and C : Bệnh viêm gan A, B, và C. New laws came out about 10 years ago that all Asian babies are given shots of Hepatitis B at birth. Hep A is usually recommended when travel abroad.

    Polio: Bệnh tê liệt.

Tetanus (lock jaw) Bệnh phong đòn gánh.

    Diphtheria: Bệnh về yết hầu.

Pertussis : I can't find it in my dictionary. Trunnie may know about this.

    Varicella: Bệnh thủy đậu.

TB: Bệnh lao (phổi hoặc xương). Vietnamese kids are usually vaccinated for TB, therefore always fail skin test when they are tested. Make sure you explain to the doctor (and with proof) or else the poor child and all close contact family members end up taking 6 months worth of TB medicine.

    BTY, welcome to this forum.

Also public libraries should have some English-Vietnamese medical dictionary, check them out .

That's it. Whooping cough or pertussis is often met in children under 4 years old (if they aren't vaccinated)

    Hi Laky,

    Try this:

Pertussis is a common illness among children under 4 years old
    or
Pertussis is often contracted by children under 4 years old
