it depends on the kind of books you're interested in.
reading newspapers is also a good and attractive way to learn. try vnexpress.net, tuoitre.com.vn and so on

There are a couple of books for reading Vietnamese, but they all presuppose at least some knowledge of Vietnamese (i.e. not for beginners). In fact, the only "reading" textbook I know that doesn't presuppose (much) Vietnmaese is "Read Vietnamese" by Nguyen Dinh Hoa, but it's ancient and long out of print.
