Default I have a complicated issue over here

    Hi everyone.

I am new here. My name is Aaron and I am typing this from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ok, I have a complicated issue over here. Just two weeks ago, my aunt, who owns a foreign worker's agency here, sent a vietnamese maid over to my home for training (Well, my mum needed help on the house chores and stuff).

The vietnamese maid does not speak english, but she does speak (barely) mandarin. We had a hard time comprehending what she said, but as I listen to her uttering of a few mandarin words, despite her sentences being gramatically incorrect, I could decipher what she's trying to say.

A week ago, my family went off to a holiday, but I did not follow them. So only the two of us (the maid and myself) were at home. So I started talking to her and asking her about her life in vietnam, etc (as I believe every maid has a unique story that they left behind in their hometown). Anyways, at some point i couldn't comprehend what she said, and that is when I found this website. I have to type something in english, then point to the computer monitor to convey my message to her.

She told me about her husband and children. Out of pity and also on her request, I allowed her to call to vietnam using my personal cellphone so that my parents would not know about this. And she called and spoke to her husband.

Then a few days later, my family return from their vacation. She (the maid) continue working, but her situation is getting tougher as she doesn't not speak mandarin fluently, and my mum gets really frustrated having to convey a simple message over and over again. Few days later, she(the maid) told me that she wants to go back to vietnam as she is having a difficult time here. So she requested to borrow my cellphone once again to call to vietnam to inform her husband about her upcoming return.

The thing is, as a standard protocol, she is here on a contract, and hence she is not allowed to return to vietnam until her tenure expires. Few days later, my aunt called to ask her to return to the foreign worker's agency. She would be sent to her employer's house (My home is just the training ground, remember? We are not the employer).

Now she is gone to somewhere else, but still stuck in malaysia. And when she called to her husband the second time informing him of her homecoming, I presumed she is oblivious to the rules or terms and conditions on her contract. So now, her husband is expecting her, while she is still stuck here.

Few days later, I received a phone call. It's her husband's number. I did not give my number to the maid or to her husband. So I suspect it must be a cellphone on the other hand that receives the caller ID. Am I right on this? Coz' in malaysia, only a cellphone can receive the caller ID of the person calling you. Can someone verify this? The number goes +84 followed by a 10 digit number.

And if it is really a cellphone, then I would love to send him a text message. Coz' everytime he calls, I answered and said nothing - because I don't know what to say. And I feel that I cannot leave her husband worrying about the where-abouts of his wife.

Which is why I am writing this in this forum. I hope I would be able to get a translation on the following passage:

"Your wife is not going back to vietnam. She called you using my phone when she was here. Now she is not here. She has gone to other houses to work. She did not call you because she has no access to a phone."

I sincerely hope someone out there can help me with this, so that I can in turn help a vietnamese who is facing much challenges in this piece of land.

    Many thanks in advance.

You could be meet some troubles later if you said so. In my opinion, you should say that: "The woman whose name.....is not here. You should call to ...(the address of the company has made the contract with her) for more details"
    Good luck !

you could translate that sentences such as:
"Vo cua ban se ko quay lai vietnam.co ay goi cho ban bang dien thoai cua toi khi co ay o nha toi, nhung bay gio co ay da chuyen den 1 can nha khac de song va lam viec ,co ay da ko goi cho ban boi vi co ay ko co dien thoai"
vietnamese language is have sign, but cos you write text message ,so u can write without sign.
    good luck

Yes, that number is indeed a cellphone number in Vietnam, which can receive caller ID (and text messages)

Translation by zenny_chan is excellent, you can send it to her husband.
