Sometimes I hear people use "do" a lot in their conversation but can anyone give me some examples of the usage please?
So far, I only know to use it in "Ban dang lam gi do?".
Cam on nhieu.

Cai gi do? (What is that?)
Anh di dau do? (Where are you going?)
I'm not a Vietnamese grammar expert (American born Viet) but from what I can see it's takes on the English equivalent of "there" or "that."
hehehe as for me I am Viet born but have grown up in Oz..so not much help...lol.
here is adding to the confusion
nó yêu mày đó .. he does love you ..
cái con đó ..that girl ..
ông đó cứ nói đó đây ..that man kept on talking vaguely ..here and there..
đó ..thấy chưa ? there.. see?
đó at the beginning seems to emphasise something..
đó ..tao nói mày rồi đừng có tin cái thằng đó ..hehehe
there...told you already not to believe him..

"ban dang lam gi do?"
you are doing what?
---> do' = what
do' is also used as "that" or "there"
for example,
cái đó - that thing
ở đó - over there

I'm not sure that đó can be translated by "what". Especially in that phrase where gì is already equivalent with "what".
I understand đó as a word which has no precise meaning, but refering to something we talk about without naming it, or refering to an approximate position, and often not immediatly near us (more near we may use đây ?)
So translating by "that" as you also do, is probably more accurate, even considering it's not equal but only equivalent, in specific context only (for exemple not in this phrase : mình phải đi đâu đó)
