It's easy. First, take a Vietnamese class for primary use of the language. Then take chances to practise it with Vietnamese friends or anyone you meet. Good luck.

penfolds...best way is to go to Viet Nam and live there for a few years the hard bit is the intonation and no way can you get it right unless you hear it

I'm learning as well, I have a vietnamese friend with me who always practise with me. It's tough but speaking and practising it is the best way to go, at least for me.

umm in my opinion, the best way to learn a new language is...
first... have a good dictionary so that you can learn a large of vocabularies
second... try to make friend with a native guy so that you can practice your new language, no need using correctly grammar, just say word-by-word and I think your friend will be very pleased to help you correct the mistakes

I know pronunciation is important but I've found its best not to get too hung up on it - just plunge in and start talking to people, it will come much faster

I don't think the best way to learn other language is to go to that country and learn by communicate with them at least you have to know the meaning, if you haven't exposed to that language it is really difficult to learn. Like most foreigners who live in USA, Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand some still do not speak these conutries native language, I meant if you don't take class. Anyway, neither Vietnamese or English aren't my mother tounge.

New life doesn't always mean a second life, does it?
Thất bại lớn nhất của đời người là tự đại
Đáng thương nhất của đời người là tự ti.
Tự đại + Tự ti = thất bại đáng thương nhất
