Hello. I am happy to offer advice on the English language in exchange for help with several Vietnamese passages.

The following are excerpts from a conversation between a man (M) and a woman (F) approximately the same age.

2) F:anh dang lam gi

3) M:dan choi ma co so mua roi ko em
:dang co cong an ma chua co viec lam

4) F:dau co anh nao dau gioi thieu di

5) M:tui no dan o benh nha hang het roi

The dictionary on Vdict is very helpful, but there are words and phrases which are not included. Also, the words do not have the accent marks, so it's even more difficult to decipher.

A literal translation of the following would help me a lot: #3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

I do have specific questions, such as: In #3, "mua roi" is "puppetry"? and "cong an" is "public security, police"?, and several others. However, it would probably be easier to just see a literal translation, rather than answering all of my ignorant questions.

Hi Craig,

You may know that more than 75% of Vietnamese words have the same syllable but different meanings. Furthermore, people from the South or Central may misspell more frequent than those from the North. Therefore, the words without the accent marks are even the challenges for the native Vietnamese speakers to figure out. For instance, as I noted in #5, I am still not sure about the Vietnamese meaning by now though I am a native speaker . So I suppose the non-native speakers like you would easily misunderstand the words without accent marks.

Back to your question, in #3, "mua roi" should be "mưa rơi" (rain), not "múa rối" (peppetry). The full sentence should be "dân chơi mà có sợ mưa rơi không em". This is originated from a slang phrase and just "invented" recently, i.e. "dân chơi không sợ mưa rơi". I quite sure that you cannot look up its meaning in any Vie-Eng Dictionary or even Vie-Vie Dictionary.

For the "dang co cong an ma chua co viec lam", it should be "đang có công ăn mà chưa có việc làm". You should note "cong an" is "công ăn" (eat), not "công an" (police). This is kinda word play of the original proverb "công ăn việc làm" (talking about jobs in general). You can look up the meaning of this proverb in some dictionary.

For your ease of check, I would try to figure our the Vietnamese translation as per each sentence you questioned

Trung tâm ăn chơi nghe đây

Anh đang làm gì?

Đâu có anh nào đâu giới thiệu đi?

It may be:
Tụi nó đang ở bên nhà hàng hết rồi
Tụi nó đang ở bên nhà Hằng (a person's name) hết rồi
Note: I am not sure that I can figure out the Vietnamese words exactly

Từ bỏ giang hồ hết rồi em ơi
