A friend of mine had surgery on her hand and I need some help asking her, How is your hand feeling? Does it hurt anymore?

I think còn is enough, vẫn còn although has the same meaning but using it in my sentence is not naturally. Or we must change it a bit, like following: Vẫn còn đau hả? (but it sounds not so heartfelt)

Yes, You just about right for the meaning on those "vẫn" "còn" . EX: "tay bạn vẫn đau" is same mean with "tay bạn còn đau"
