    Dear Penfold,

I know that you are Chinese but I am not sure what dialect you speak. If you speak Cantanese or Mandarin, there are some similarity in spoken vietnamese with those 2 dialects. I would think above 80% vietnamese vocab are Vietmaese Chinese which means vietnamese spoken words originated from spoken Chinese.

Anyway, I can share my experience of improving a second language is to read newspaper and listen to radio ... and make vietnamese friends.

    Cheers

    Camtieu

first... have a good dictionary so that you can learn a large of vocabularies
second... try to make friend with a native guy so that you can practice your new language, no need using correctly grammar, just say word-by-word and I think your friend will be very pleased to help you correct the mistakes
    Here English goes not smooth:
    no need using correctly grammar
better, no need used to correct grammar

to help you correct the mistakes (mistakes are still unknown)
better, to help you correct mistakes (that may come)

Vietnamese is a difficult language, so as to learn to be a long process. First you need to know the basic words, then gradually go to the complex. Most Vietnamese are not important for the very intonation you to contact with Vietnam and create the environment in Vietnam. Gradually, your reflexes with Vietnam will be faster. Good luck!

We are prone to be greedy, a reincarnation is not bad, a double life may be a suffering, a second life with a second wife is a new experience. But a new life is always good.
