Hello all, this is my first post. Below is a poem I wrote in English along with an attempt at a Vietnamese translation. Perhaps someone could assist in the Vietnamese version.

A Brief History of Viet Nam

Her vast dynasties
battle a millennium of
futility.
938 sovereignty.

Great Khan gambles
on land and sea.
Stakes are raised.
Bamboo.

Fierce dragon, if
fate had feathers clipped
your fatherland would utter
a different cry.

Colonization, romanization, quốc ngữ.
感 恩 (merci)
mercy adieu.
Điện Biên Phủ.

JFK, LBJ, Tricky Dick,

the English version is normal, showing the wish of the writer to learn by heart Vietnam 's history. But the translation sounds like a profanity.

Thank you for the feedback. Could you please be more specific? Is the entire theme of the translation profane, or just certain phrases (e.g. xén lông chim)?

I can see how that could be misinterpreted. Obviously I used Vdict's translator and the help of a native speaker. How would you translate it?

Excuse me! This Vietnámese version is meaningless!

Excuse me! This Vietnámese version is meaningless!

Can you help me make it meaningful? The reason I posted the version was to be constructively criticized and helped. Simply saying it's profane or meaningless doesn't help someone trying to translate something to Vietnamese for the first time.

I wish my parents taught me how to read and write in Vietnamese, but I am American born and self-taught. My Vietnamese vocabulary and reading is limited to conversational/menus.

At first, the english version is meaningful? Is it sound interesting? I am not sure !
If it is, I think that...I'm not a native-English speaker so I can only explain some words

Her = the country = tổ quốc, đất nước (for example China and her Navy force)
futility = vô ích, phù phiếm.
Great Khan = Thành Cát Tư Hãn (the Great King of Mongol, a country in the north of China )
Gamble =canh bạc, sự mạo hiểm, liều lĩnh.( this word, maybe, implies the invasion oF great Khan into VN is a venture !)
The thirst = cơn thèm khát, sự thèm muốn (this word is not say the shortage of water but it says that the foreign invasors desired to invade our country
Colonization = công cuộc thực dân, khai hoá một vùng đất
romanization = việc viết ngôn ngữ theo ký tự La tinh. (before France colonization, Vietnamese didn't use alphabet a,b,c...in writing)
