Hello All!

I have been assigned an essay where I am to analyze something significant from the novel Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. It is also a new move with Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet. Anyways, this is supposed to be a thesis driven essay of 5-6 pages. I was wondering if any of you could take a glance at my introduction and see if it is clear and concise. Keep in mind, this paper is directed towards an audience who is familiar with the text, which may explain some lack of summary in my intro. The only thing i worry about in my introduction is its brevity.

Thanks!

In reading Revolutionary Road, the reader feels engulfed by a hopeless ocean known as suburbia. This is especially true when examining April, who refuses to assume the suburban role of a housewife. She is convinced that this illusory world where “marvelous golden people” can claim a sense of individuality and be what it is that they aspire to be, is unfeasible in a place where everyone assimilates in prescribed roles. In other words, these customs and roles that are engraved in suburbia—notably those of the breadwinning father and the caring housewife—impede suburbans from establishing themselves as unique entities. Thus, through April’s character, this novel elucidates the reader as to how suburbia can be detrimental to the development of one’s identity.
