Default Girl with yellow skin (Người con gái Việt Nam da vàng)

This is a famous song written by Trinh Cong Son who is a popular Vietnamese song writer, he is wellknown not only in Vietnam but also to many foreigner for his meaningful and great-melody songs. Among many of those, there is a simple song about a Vietnamese girl during the war time who fought for her country leaving behind her youth and personal interest.

Here below the Vietnamese version and English version translated by Richard Fuller who came to Vietnam in 1969 at the age of 22 to work as a volunteer for the international service. He himself then felt in love with Trinh Cong Son's music and translated this song into English and performed on the stage many times. The video music can be found in youtube.

    English version:

Girl, so young, with skin like gold,
Home you love like fields of grain,
Girl, so young, with skin like gold,
On your face fall tears like rain.

Girl, so young, with skin like gold,
Home you love, so do love the weak.
Seated there in dreams of peace,
Proud of home as of your womanhood.

You've never known our land in peace.
You've never known Olden Viet Nam.
You've never sung our village songs.
All you have is an angry heart.

    Passing by the village gate,
In the night with guns booming low,
Girl so young, you clutch your heart.
On soft skin a bleeding wound grows.

Girl, so young, with skin like gold,
Home you love like fields of grain,
Girl, so young, with skin like gold,
You love home which is no more.

    O! Unfeeling and heartless death.
Dark our land a thousand years.
Home, my sister, you've come alone.
And I, alone, still search for you.

Girl, so young, with skin like gold

Richard Fuller, A very good and young rewriter. Thanks for his love for Vietnamese songs. I also want to translate this, of course, mine is not good as his

    Yellow skin Vietnam young girl
Loves home land as loves the yellow field
    Yellow skin Vietnam young girl
Loves home land so the tears fall down.

    Yellow skin Vietnam young girl,
Loves home land, so loves the low mob.
She shuts there dreams of peace,
Loves home land as loves herself.

She unknows her land in peace,
    She unknows olden Vietnam.
    She's never sung folk-songs before
All she has is an angry heart.

    She was passing though village,
In war night with boom and ball.
    She clutched her heart suddenly.
On her skin blood flowed down.

    Yellow skin Vietnam young girl,
Loves home land as loves the yellow field.
    Yellow skin Vietnam young girl,
(who) loves country was not alive.

    O! Painfull and heartless death,
O! the dark Country thousand years.
She was come home land alone,
And I still look for (home land) alone.

I found some performance(s)(?) of Mr.Richard Fuller on youtube several months ago. I was so excited about all the songs which were translated and sung by Mr.Fuller, especially in the song "Nối Vòng Tay Lớn"-"The Great Circle of Vietnam"
I tried to listen "The Great Circle of Vietnam" but I could not exactly realize the words. Could someone who has a good listening skill help me to give the lyric of "The Great Circle of Vietnam."

    Thank you very much!

    1st Version:
Anyone who teaches me one word - even half a word - is still my teacher.
    2nd Version:
Even he who teaches me the smallest bit can still be called my teacher

Please correct my grammar as you see fit. Much appreciated!

here go the english version i found on the internet, i feel the translation is a little bit "corny" and not really fluent but i guess that is the only way to make it "sync" with the vietnamese version...

    1. From jungled hills to the distant sea, We form a giant circle to unite our country. From far and wide, we now return, With joy, like a sandstorm, to the far horizons, Let's now join hands : A great circle of Viet Nam Flags in the wind, happy nights and days, Of one blood our hearts ablaze, Reconciled, a new day. Hamlet, town now joined as one, Remember the dead as we bask in the sun, And one by one, we spread our smiles.

    2. From North to South, we all join hands, From fields long abandoned to mountainous lands, We'll ford deep streams, climb over hills. From hamlets to the cities, We embrace with glee an eternal circle : Dead and living, one are we.
