Default "you and i" or "you and me"

    Hi everyone,

This morning, when i was at my office, my director asked me to tell him the difference between 2 sentences:

    You and I are alike
    you and me are alike.

I told him the first one is correct. i'm so confused about this issue, could you help me to distinguish between the 2 sentences?

    Thank you and warm regards.

YOU and I are SUBJECTs of are (to be): WE are....

    You + I = we
    You + me = us

thank you Manh Nguyen, by the way, i have asked my friend - an American - he's now studying in an University

He suggested that i should try to test like the following:

    You and i are alike
    you and me are alike

    1. omit 'i' and 'me':
you (and i) are alike (correct grammar)
you (and me) are alike (correct grammar)

    2. omit 'you', of course we don't mention the 'alike' adjective here
    i am alike (correct grammar)
    me am alike (incorrect grammar)

In summary, 'you and i are alike' is correct.

Please tell me your opinion about this, thank you

I don't like it. I just used my common sense with basic knowledge of English grammar. It took me just a second!

By the way, I like to know what your boss is and why he liked to "beat around the bush."

    Good luck,

Your method makes me supprised and interested, really admire you. To let you know, my friend told me how to test it, not my boss. I think that my boss just enthusiatically helped me to study English. He had lived in France for a very long time therefore i think he's good at French more than English.

Thank you and good luck to you.
