Default Words for children in VN - guidance please

    Chào các bạn

I would like some guidance on which words to use for child/children in VN. I have so far found these words:

    trẻ con

    trẻ em

    đứa trẻ

    con

    con nít

There seem to be a lot of words for a child or children as part of a family group (eg youngest/oldest child), but I'm really looking for the most general all-purpose word for a child or children. For example, how to say:

    1) There are some children playing in the street.

    2) Is this your child?

    3) Children are the future.

    4) Every child has the right to healthcare and education.

    5) How many children do you have?

Also, is there an informal word for a child or children - the equivalent to 'kid/s' in English?

Any guidance on usage would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tre con, tre em = child/ children

a child = một đứa con nít, một đứa trẻ.

Ông ấy có 2 con = he has two kids/ children.

How many children do you have = Ông/ bà/ bạn ....có mấy đứa con.

Trẻ con, trẻ em = children/kid/kids/child

To say about sb's son(s) or daughter(s) . For example:
How about your kid ? = Thằng nhỏ/ thằng cu/ thằng nhóc/ con bé....nhà bạn thế nào?
thằng cu nhà tôi quá hiếu động = my son/kid is hyperactive
con bé con ông trông gầy quá = your daughter looks so thin.

Hắn xử sự như con nít = his behaviour is childish
Tính nết trẻ con =to be childish in behaviour

Sometime to express love people say about their daughter/ son like a princess/prince
They have 2 sons = Họ có hai hoàng tử
Công chúa của tôi hôm nay không khỏe = my daughter is unwell today

Thanks very much. I'll have to study what you wrote, because it is clear that in VN there are a large number of choices available, and I'm not sure I would know which one to pick.

    More detailed:

Thằng nhóc, thằng cu, cục cưng... (boy) is informal
con bé, cục cưng... (girl) is informal
"Con" or "con cái" is formal
"Con" or "con cái" is used very popularly/commonly
therefore, "con" or "con cái" is both formal and informal It depends on the context

"Hoàng tử" or "Công chúa" is used to show the love but they are also like a slang,

    "I wish I had a prince" means "I long for a son"
However, hoàng tử or công chúa is not popular/ common

When you see "tre em", "tre con" you can totally translate into English "Children"/ "Child" . Tre em/ tre con is most common
