    I want to swim

Always put TO in front of the verb and NEVER NEVER put another word in between. Many English speakers 'split the infinitive'. An example is "To boldy go where no man has gone before"

TO does not precede an adjective. I suspect that you have heard TO in front of an adjective in speech but this is spelt TOO and means excessive e.g. TOO TIRED - MET QUA. Hope that helps.

Mình hong hiểu câu hỏi của bạn lắm nhưng mà mình dịch thoáng 'TO' = 'để', như thế khi cần dùng chắc sẽ dễ hiểu hơn, ví dụ:

    adjective + TO + verb
Too cold to go outside = lạnh quá để ra ngoài

    verb + TO + verd
stop to look = dừng lại để nhìn

    To + verb
To eat you need to open your mouth = Để ăn ta phải mở miệng ra :P

Trong trường hợp "I go to school' như bạn đề ra, "To" lại mang nghĩa "tới" - Mình đi tới trường nhưng "To" này đứng sau động từ, đi theo "school" nên mang 1 vai trò khác. Nói chung "To" phía trước và "To" phía sau động từ chính mang nghĩa khác nhau.

    For eating, ....
To be or not to be that is the question.
