The deeper this swimmer goes, the greater the pressure from the surrounding water. Comparing and Contrasting How is the water in the swimming pool similar to Earth's interior? How is it different?


During your journey to the center of Earth, your instruments record an increase in pressure in the surrounding rock. Pressure results from a force pressing on an area. Because of weight of the rock above, pressure inside Earth increases as you go deeper. The deeper you go, the greater the pressure. Pressure inside Earth increases much as it does in the swimming pool in figure 3.
