    Default Need help..please

I'm working with a small family operated company that has predominately Vietnamese speaking employees. The company is very small and is wanting to grow and provide work for their Vietnamese community. Their parents use a portion of the profits from this company to provide books and supplies to children in Vietnam. The owners speak Vietnamese but do not translate well from English to Vietnamese. I am looking to find someone that can help me translate from English to Vietnamese..This is a sample of one of the items I need to have translated.

Lenguyen, it's always nice to read your translations and make a comparison. Overall, they're always very good. I especially like your #6 translation, I think it's better than mine. However, you used "quản đốc" for supervisor. I believe "quản đốc" is foreman. I was a little hesitant in choosing a word for supervisor also. I initially wanted to use "xếp" but "xếp" correctly translated is "boss". To Vietnamese people anybody they work under and receive orders from they refer to as "xếp"; but I thought that was too informal. Also, in #9 you used "tưởng thưởng" for recognition; I believe "tưởng thưởng" is reward; getting recognized is a little different than getting a reward. Just sharing some ideas.

Yes,' quản đốc' is not quite an equivalent word but I think 'foreman' is more suitable for an industrial form, a sheetmetal work factory for instance, don't you think?

and yes, you were right again on "tưởng thưởng".

Yes, but again we don't know the nature of the company's business. You are assuming that it is some kind of factory. The person did not say it was a factory, he just said it was a company. In my training, I'm not allowed to translate according to assumptions; I am obligated to translate the word provided even though I don't agree with its usage. Here, since supervisor is used I have to translate that even though like I said earlier, I was thinking of the word "xếp" because Vietnamese people always use the generic word "ông xếp, bà xếp" for manager, supervisor, boss. I'll recount a translation story for you. An elderly person underwent an MRI scan. When asked about it, she said, "Họ bỏ tôi vô cái hòm rồi đẩy vô cái hang" . "Hòm" is coffin and "hang" is cave. I knew that was the wrong word usage because she did not have the knowledge for that technology; however a translator has to translate it exactly like she said it, although I did feel kind of stupid doing it.
